What do you do professionally?
I completed my Bachelor’s in Computer Science (Intelligence and Modsim threads) at Georgia Tech in 2022, and I will be completing my Master’s in Computer Science (Machine Learning) in December 2023 through the College of Computing’s BS/MS Computer Science program. This past summer, I also interned at Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Seattle, WA.
Why do you TA for OMSCS?
Before becoming a TA for the OMSCS section of CS 7650: Natural Language Processing (NLP), I was a TA for the on-campus section of NLP for the previous two semesters. I really enjoy working with students and answering questions to help deepen their knowledge of the subject. Answering students' questions also helps reinforce and improve my own knowledge and understanding of NLP as it gives me the opportunity to dive deep into the specifics of different models and produce a thorough and concise answer for the student. I find NLP to be a very interesting and constantly evolving field of machine learning and AI, and it’s super cool to pull back the curtain on some popular technologies that we use today such as Google Translate or ChatGPT. I hope that by being a TA, I can enhance the learning experience of students taking the course and increase their interest and enthusiasm for the subject.
What is your advice for future OMSCS students?
My advice to future OMSCS students is to be inquisitive. Ask a lot of questions in your classes; there is always a friendly TA or professor or even a fellow student there to help. Asking questions allows you to take advantage of something that the course videos don’t provide: knowledge from a person with experience related to the subject. Discussions and communication in general are valuable and can help you to develop intuitions that will make it easier for you to wrap your head around new complex problems that may share some similarities. It may also help you connect ideas from different fields and explore their intersection further.
What hobby or activity are you looking forward to getting back to once you're done with OMSCS?
In my free time I enjoy building and collecting LEGO sets. Currently, I am expanding my collection of LEGO-scale models of real-world cars from the LEGO "Speed Champions" series. I also like to work on various electronics and programming projects, and I am most interested in smart home and robotics, as it gives me the chance to not only continue to use my programming skills, but also develop new digital electronics and circuitry skills.
